On the plateau in front of the Art Pavilion on March 22, 2022, on the
day of remembrance of the Zagreb earthquake, the audience will be introduced to the renowned Croatian multimedia artist Iris Lobaš Kukavičić. The artist will present her ambient installation entitled Where do we come from ?, What are we ?, Where are we going ?. This is the first exhibition from this year’s cycle entitled Art in front of the Art Pavilion, which is being successfully held for the second year in a row.

The work represents a kind of reflection and encouragement of mass collective consciousness and re-examination of one’s own identity in the current time. It consists of 12 stylized figures made of wood that are animated and video work placed in correlation with the original music of Srdjan Berdovic Yamato uta / Song of Japan, performed by Japanese percussionists, Fujii trio. Alluding to the chaos and uncertainty of the time in which we find ourselves, the installation does not offer answers, but seeks to encourage the observer to introspection and seek answers within their own being.

Iris Lobaš Kukavičić (1976, Dubrovnik) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and received her master’s and doctoral degrees from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Mostar. She is employed at the Department of Art and Restoration of the University of Dubrovnik, as an assistant professor. She has held over twenty solo exhibitions at home and abroad and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. She is the author of public sculptures in Croatia and Denmark.

The author of the Cycle is Jasminka Poklečki Stošić, and the author of the foreword in the exhibition catalog is Anita Ruso Brečić.
